Power Efficiency

The BladeRack® 2 X-Series is engineered to provide the most efficient power solution possible for any data center power structure. From the industry leading BladeRack 2 XT (BR2-XT) with its auto-sensing 208 – 480VAC, 50/60Hz, 3-Phase input power and optional full redundancy to the economic BladeRack 2 XL (BR2-XL) featuring an ultra-efficient 200-240VAC power solution Verari Systems has a solution that is an ideal fit for any enterprise organization.

BladeRack 2 XT

The BR2-XT accepts native 480VAC 3-Phase power off of the grid which results in fewer power conversions and higher efficiency. A Front End Rectifier (FER) in the rack then converts the traditional AC power to more efficient DC power for the blades and also steps it up to 800VDC resulting in lower power requirements and a savings of up to 35% on power costs.

The AC to DC conversion that occurs within the BR2-XT infrastructure translates directly into more efficient power usage. Traditional servers draw 480VAC from the power grid, and lose about 5-10% efficiency as it passes through an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Another 5-10% of that power is lost on the way through the power distribution unit (PDU), bringing your total power efficiency down to about 70-80% of the initial power supplied (Figure 1). BR2-XT takes 480VAC from the power grid, bypasses the PDU altogether, and goes directly into a FER. This gives you a power efficiency of over 83%.

BladeRack 2 XL

The innovative power system of the BR2-XL utilizes 208VAC power for blades and eliminates the need for the FER in each row of the rack. This boosts system density by 9% over that of the BR2-XT while still maintaining dramatically increased efficiency from competing blade-based solutions.
