SAN DIEGO, Calif. – June 26, 2006 -- Verari Systems™, the premier developer of powerful, platform-independent blade computing systems, today announced that it will introduce new server platforms based on the new Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® processor 5100 (formerly codenamed “Woodcrest”) featuring advanced FBD memory, PCI Express I/O, hardware-assisted virtualization and more reliability features which give customers the power to do more with every server.
“Intel has released a product that we have tested and proven to become a leading solution in the HPC market,” said David B. Wright, CEO of Verari Systems. "As we’ve seen over the past several years, power and cooling costs have become substantial contributors to datacenter TCO. Verari Systems is a technology leader when it comes to server power efficiency and cooling. Intel is doing their part by taming one of the biggest heat culprits in the datacenter with their new 65W, 64-bit dual-core processors that boost power efficiency by up to three times what was previously possible."
Integrated across Verari Systems' broad, thermally efficient line of servers, the new 65 watt processor will enable up to three times the performance per watt and greater than two times performance over single-core Intel Xeon processors. Official benchmark results conducted by both companies were released on May 23rd, 2006.
“The impressive peak of 34.9 GFlops per node during Linpack benchmarking done by Verari Systems and Intel last month demonstrates the unmatched price/performance per watt of these new server platforms.” said Boyd Davis, General Manager Intel's Server Platforms Group Marketing. "Verari Systems is known for their expertise in power efficiency and cooling. The new Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor 5100 series enables Verari to achieve even greater thermal efficiencies delivering superior density and reliability in datacenters throughout the world.”
Verari Systems achieved the above mentioned performance measurement based on the Linpack benchmark with their RM1220 featuring an Intel preproduction customer reference board with two Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor 5160, 3.00 GHz with 4MB L2 Cache, dual 1333 MHz system bus, 8GB (8x1GB) 667MHz FB-DIMM memory; Red Hat® Enterprise Linux 4 - Update 2, EM64T and Intel Linpack 3.0.1. The benchmark results can be found on http://www.intelstartyourengines.com.
